Testing my SKILLZ
Yeah that’s right… I used a “z” to spell skills. That’s because I’m so awesome… Ok, but seriously. One of the things I’m working on as an agent-to-be is developing my real estate skills. I’m lucky enough to work for a guy who has been in the industry for 13 years so I’m getting plenty of opportunities to observe him and really identify what will be my strengths and weaknesses.
As the great Napoleon Dynamite once said, “chicks want guys with skills,” and you know what? I think the same applies to what people want from their real estate agent… SKILLZZZ.
The one area I’m really working on developing is my ability to set a fair price. One of the things every agent does when they are pricing a property is run a Comparative Market Analysis or Comps. This is just a fancy way of saying they are comparing other similar properties that have sold recently and using that as a barometer to set the price for their listing.
My weakness has been being over optimistic in what price I think we should list at. I’ve noticed that over the last few weeks, I’ve come in significantly higher than my boss. The main reason I can pinpoint so far is how difficult it is to find decent comps in Modesto and surrounding areas. But, this is where I’m stoked about working for someone with lots of experience. I’m grateful to be able to talk through all this with someone and have an opportunity to “fail smarter.” I get to fail in front of him and not with all my future clients!
So while I may never be the greatest with nunchucks or bow hunting skills... hopefully I'll be a boss with my real estate skills!
